The SINFONIA project (2020–2024) has delivered a set of groundbreaking recommendations aimed at modernising and enhancing the safety and efficacy of medical procedures involving ionising radiation. These recommendations were developed through multi-disciplinary collaboration, focused on personalised dosimetry and risk assessment in:
✅ Diagnostic Radiology
✅ Nuclear Medicine
✅ Radiation Therapy
✅ Nuclear Medicine
✅ Radiation Therapy
Key areas addressed in the recommendations include:
-
Development of AI tools (e.g. i-Dose) for accurate, patient-specific dose estimation
-
Guidelines for communicating radiation risks to patients and the public
-
Strategies for optimising dose in both imaging and therapy procedures
-
Emphasis on education and training to strengthen radiation safety knowledge
-
Frameworks to assess environmental and occupational exposure
The recommendations are essential reading for radiographers, nuclear medicine technologists, radiation therapists, medical physicists, educators, and decision-makers—ensuring that patient care is both safe and future-ready.
The session includes an open discussion and is hosted by the MEENAS consortium, with support from EIBIR.
